Is it time to replace your boat’s holding tank?

Maintaining your boat’s marine sanitation system is essential to a pleasant and hassle free boating experience. At West Marine, you will find everything you need to keep your sanitation system in perfect working order. If your system is older and needs to be replaced, we have what you need to do that as well.

Rigid Waste Holding Tanks

When it comes to repairing or replacing a marine sanitation system, the biggest (literally) consideration is the waste holding tank. Although certain flexible holding tanks (like those used for diesel fuel) can be used to retain waste, most boats are equipped with a rigid waste holding tanks, which are similar to water tanks, but with greater wall thickness. They are usually made from linear polyethylene and we recommend a minimum 1/4” wall thickness. Todd’s 1/4” Wall Water/Holding Tank is offered in capacities from three to 55 gallons. While small marine holding tanks will meet the requirements of the law, larger tanks offer greater time between pump outs, but not all boats can accommodate them.

Items associated with waste holding tanks include fitting relocation kits, RV style sewer kits, holding tank vent filters and pipe-to-hose adapter kits.

Waste Treatment Systems

Some boats are equipped with a sewage treatment system which macerates and disinfects sewage so it can (unless the boat is in a no discharge area) be legally discharged overboard. Examples include Raritan’s Electro Scan Type I MSD and their Purasan Waste Treatment System.
